  •                   CONGRATULATIONS

    White Plains High School is excited to announce that during the week of our spring break several of our faculty members will be honored by local community organizations.  Mr. Will Dixon, house administrator, is receiving The 2014 Blazing Torch Award to honor outstanding educators in the local community presented by The Westchester County alumnae chapter or Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  Ms. Cindy Otero, school psychologist, is receiving the Unsung Heroes award, presented by The Westchester Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.  Ms. Denise Tomici, physical education teacher, is a runner up for the My Favorite Teacher Award presented by Barnes and Noble of White Plains. Mrs. Lucy Roman, coordinator of Library Media, Business Education and Instructional Technology was awarded the 2014 SW BOCES School Library System Administrator of the Year Award. On behalf of the entire faculty of White Plains School, congratulations and thank you for all that you do.

  • Registration for the White Plains High School Extended Day Program is currently open. 

    Registration forms are in guidance and house offices.

     

    The Spring Extended Day Program will begin now and end May 22, 2014.

     

    Student will receive academic support and Regents review in the following content areas:

    ·         Algebra

    ·         Chemistry

    ·         Earth Science

    ·         English

    ·         Global History and Geography

    ·         Living Environment (regents review and make-up labs)

    ·         United States History and Government

  • Congratulations to members of the WPHS Choir and Ms. Cruz!
     
    WPHS Choir members David Axelrod, Daniela Poppe, Max Golden, Maddy Gartenberg, and their teacher, Penelope Cruz, recently took part in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division Conference in Baltimore. The students were selected by audition to participate in the honor choirs made up of students from the Eastern Seaboard. Ms. Cruz served as the chair for all the honor choirs as well as President of NY ACDA.

  • WPHS Science Research Students Win at JSHS Competition!
    It is with great pride to announce that five of our WPHS Science Research Seniors won awards this past Saturday at the Westchester-Rockland Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (JSHS) held at Sleepy Hollow High School.  This year there were over 600 participants from over 30 local High Schools.  Below is a list of our students and their awards:

    Tanveen Dhallu: 2nd place Medicine & Health II PowerPoint:  “Effects of Aromatherapy Inhalation on Pain and Anxiety in Patients with Chronic Wounds”

    David Lumelsky:  4th place Physical Science III PowerPoint : “Use of Slippery Liquid Infused Porous Surface (SLIPS) Coating on Aircraft to Prevent Icing During Flight into Known Icing Conditions”

    Ty Ingram: 4th place Environmental Science II PowerPoint: “The Productivity of a Corrugated Algae Turf Scrubber Compared with that of a Conventional Algae Turf Scrubber”

    Arielle Hazi: 2nd place Biology II Poster-board: “The Effect of Nestbox Decoys on Nesting Habits of Eastern Bluebirds”

    Diana Medina: 3rd place Behavior II Poster-board: “The Effects of Daylight Saving Time on Sleep and Vigilance”

    Ty, David and Tanveen  will move onto the Junior Science & Humanities Symposium Regional competition at SUNY Albany on March 10-11th.  Ty and David will be presenting Poster-boards of their research and Tanveen will compete in the PowerPoint category. 

    Congratulations to all our seniors for their hard work and dedication!
