Mamaroneck Avenue School last week staged “You Can Count On Me,” an original show featuring the “Self-Esteem Team” performed by the MAS Chorus. The show spotlighted MAS administrators, teachers and students who are committed to being on the front lines to stop bullying and empower students to stand up for themselves and others.
Written by Veronica Mittenzwei for the school, and choreographed by MAS music teacher Kristin Carpenter and Ms. Mittenzwei, the show incorporated popular music chosen by students, including Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” and Bruno Mars’ “You Can Count on Me.” The 80-member chorus led the show while students in the audience were active participants.
The show, with three performances, was the second original show written by Ms. Mittenzwei. Last year, she wrote “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully,” also performed by MAS students.
