The Special Needs Committee here at Ridgeway is part of The Special Needs Committee of the White Plains District PTA. The Committee provides an exciting venue for parents and the school district to work together, share information and resources, and create an on-going dialogue about issues relating to students with learning differences and disabilities. The committee is not a separate special education entity (SEPTA), but rather a committee of the district-wide PTA Council. Its goal is to address the needs of a broad range of students, not just those with an IEP, and to increase acceptance and inclusion of students with learning differences in our school community.
Navigating the special education process can be a daunting experience. It can be a very confusing process that leaves many parents feeling like they are lost and isolated. The parent handbook linked below was created to try to alleviate some of the confusion and to assist you in navigating the system. It was created by parents of special needs children right here at Ridgeway Elementary.
